See, I had this all worked out. A 5 week gap in my med internship schedule, a shop that's about 3-4 days' work away from being ready to use (it's not like you ever finish one, right?), and then some blind, stupid scooter (moped) driver overtakes another cyclist, smashes into your left forearm breaking both bones clean through, and flings you into a ditch while totalling your bike. 4 days, one 2.5 hour operation and two metal plates later, I'm home, safe, remarkably unhurt all things considered (we were both doing at least 25 mph), but I'm not going to be playing guitar, finishing my shop or building much of anything for the next months, minimum. Sort of depends on how rehab goes (have some minor nerve damage, back of thumb/part of hand, but fingertip sensation and movement of hand all seems fine.)

Bah, Humbug.

Mattia, sorry to hear that, I bet that smarted .

What's the saying "physician heal thyself"?

Next time, get them to break your leg, at least then you can play your guitar.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune Mattia and glad the outcome is turning in your favor! Like Hesh said, REHAB does work, i've been through that once and can assure you to listen very closely to what they say!

Good luck with the shop and post pics when you can bud!

Serge

Goodness....that's awful. So very sorry about that.

So this week we have a smashed guitar, and a smashed arm...what's next? Let's hope for a better latter half of the week.

That's why I run to work these days. Too many idiots on the road who think it's a good idea to cut you up when you are on the bike.

I sincerely pray and hope you have a fast and whole recovery.

Man, sounds like Blockbuster, Ben & Jerry's and a nursing intern to wait on you hand and foot...wait, where's the downside in all this? Oh yeah, no guitarmaking... Seriously though, I'm glad it wasn't all it could've been, and I wish you a speedy recovery!

Well, Mattia, it appears that you can type just fine.
Good. Now you can hang around the OLF more, and consider it rehab in itself.

Sorry to hear this. As a rider myself, your story scared me pretty well!

Glad to hear from you, Mattia, but too bad about your accident. I guess you could consider yourself lucky.

I'm laid up after two surgeries to strengthen weak leg bones, using titanium nails. Thought I'd have some shop time, but I'm just not up to it yet, 2 weeks post op. Plus, we're in a cold snap. No way I can get my shop close to working temp.

Well, all is not lost - you can always get someone to build guitars for you with all the $$$dough$$$ youll get from suing the butt off of the moped driver.
Seriously though - Im glad your alright, you can always catch up on some reading,.... on the bright side.
Cheers

Sorry to hear it Mattia,
As Michael said, the wood and building will be there when you are better.
It's a good insentive to heal faster.
Take care of yourself!

Tough break, Mattia.    Hope you heal well and fast. Maybe, at least, you can give the forum a few weeks of your time. Shopping the sponsors zoot piles might alleviate some of the pain.

Sorry to hear that Mattia, but you'll heal in time. Pity about the lost time in the shop.

It's usually taxi drivers that wipe me out. Morons have gotten me twice so far.

Bummer!

On the bright side you can rest, read, design your next instruments, and spend more time among your frinds on the OLF!

Mattia,

Yes - but what happened to all the pizzas

I suppose that's life's way of telling you to spend some more time designing lots of new and exciting instruments. Take care.

What a bummer! Well Mattia, I'm just glad your injuries weren't worse, all things considering...

May your recovery be swift and complete!

Best wishes,

Al
